DGS Congress 2026 in Mainz

From 28 September to 2 October 2026, the DGS Congress 2026 will take place at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

Dan Verständig, together with Annekatrin Bock (University of Vechta) and Franco Rau (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg), will contribute a talk on Futures of Education in the Context of Digital Infrastructures: Between Governance and Inequality.

The contribution asks how educational systems are changing under increasingly data-intensive and AI-supported conditions. Digital infrastructures and algorithmic systems increasingly shape processes of assessment, observation, and decision-making, transforming not only educational practices but also institutional responsibilities and forms of social differentiation. The contribution particularly addresses tensions between educational judgement, algorithmic governance, and social inequality. At the same time, it challenges the idea of technological development as a linear or inevitable future of education and instead asks how plural and contested educational futures can be made visible.

We are looking forward to the discussions and conversations in Mainz!
