ECCES 2026 in Hamburg

From 16–19 September, our team will be contributing two hands-on workshops exploring how we can engage critically, creatively, and playfully with AI, data, and digital infrastructures.

On Wednesday, Anna Bräunig and Dan Verständig together with Julia Wierzbowski and Marvin Priedigkeit from Codenauten, as well as Britta Kölling, will host “Tracing Digital Footprints: Unlocking Privacy in the Age of AI.”

Building on work from our SKILL project and the AI Awareness Lab, the workshop invites participants to become Data Detectives: tracing digital footprints, exploring who can access our data, and experimenting with playful approaches to privacy and AI literacy. At ECCES, the format will be playtested and discussed together with teachers, researchers, and participants. Combining hands-on activities with Critical Computational Literacy, the workshop explores how questions of data, surveillance, privacy, and participation can become tangible in educational settings.

On Friday, Ula Przybylska and Dan Verständig will host a Co-Construction Workshop (CCWS).

Rather than treating data as something simply given, the workshop explores how data is continuously generated, transformed, interpreted, and reframed through our practices. In a hands-on co-construction setting, participants will experiment with ways of making these processes visible — including their gaps, frictions, transitions, uncertainties, and multiple perspectives. The workshop brings our CCWS approach into conversation with creative data practices and serves as an experimental space for our ongoing RMU Data Dialogue. Together, we will map some of the messiness of working with data — and explore what becomes visible when visualisation itself becomes a practice of reflection and critique.

We are looking forward to three days of experimenting, playing, discussing, and exchanging ideas in Hamburg!
